Asana

The word, “Asana” takes its roots from the Sanskrit language and means, “Yogic Postures or Movements”. Traditionally, we define asana as a “Comfortable Seat” which refers to a seated posture used in meditation. Asana is what make it possible for us to meditate so effortlessly and with so much benefit. This includes all the movement facets of yoga, such as vinyasa, hatha, yin, stretching, and power flow.

Pranayama

Pranayama, also known as breathing exercises, is the foundation of any yoga practice. “Prana” means breath and “Ayama” means to control; combining the two: “Pranayama” means “to control or hold the breath”. This is how we expand our life force energy. You will learn various techniques for different intentions so you know exactly when and how to use them.

Our teaching methodology classes specifically aim to provide a nurturing environment for our students with a curriculum that will set you on the path of the true nature of traditional yoga in this modern day. We will teach various types of yogic practices and theories to give you confidence and awareness of a wide array of foundational yogic knowledge.

Kriya

Shatkarmas are six purification techniques that aim to clean the body, and free it from all diseases. When developed into a more ritualistic practice, they improve the flow of prana throughout the organs of the whole body, including the physical, emotional, and mental bodies.

Mantra Chanting

Chanting is using the voice to invoke connection to Self. Different mantras are used to call upon and honour different energies. These are all very powerful and have been used for millennia amongst the yogis as a way to connect them directly to specific deities and vibrations.

Anatomy & Physiology

We conduct theoretical anatomy and physiology classes. Anatomy is a term applied to the body structure of an individual, we use this science to protect individuals from injuries. Physiology is the movement of that body structure. You will be able to apply this knowledge when you start your teaching journey.

Mudras

Yoga Mudras are hand “gestures” which facilitate the flow of energy in the body of an individual. Each mudra has a specific purpose for its energy flow.

Bandhas

We teach you when and how to use and benefit from various body locks physically engaged during a yoga practice, which are used in both more traditional and less traditional practices. This leads to many energetic, emotional, and physical benefits. These are part of yoga mudras.

Philosophy

There are many subjects of philosophy. In this course, we will refer to Yoga Philosophy (Yoga Darshan) and the Vedic World View, which includes the study of the body, mind, and spirit of an individual and how it all interconnects into one unified field of consciousness.

Meditation

As you observe your deep breathing, you enable your mind to find stillness for a few minutes, all the while keeping your mind away from unnecessary thoughts. This is what we call meditation. We will focus on 3 main types of meditation: Traditional Himalayan Meditation, Healing Meditation, and Sound Meditation. These meditations help you on your path to samadhi.

Alignment

Body alignment is one of the most important parts of Asana because it’s what prevents us from injury and gives us the greatest physical benefits. Well-practiced and learned alignment emphasizes the performance of poses/asanas in an effortless state of body, according to each individual’s body composition. Alignment is crucial in understanding any style of yoga practice.
